SKHC Series Tactile Switch Repair *Information*
This technique works on most switches with an internal metal snap dome clicker.
DO NOT attempt this on switches with rubber plungers, either visible or internal! Deoxit will soak into rubber and make it expand. Your switch will be destroyed.
Skip to 2:22 to see the part about repairing these switches. You need RED Deoxit D100L
In the 90's I repaired tens of thousands of these types of buttons in desk phones using Deoxit D100L and an engraver. In some cases I got to see the phone again after 7+ years and the buttons worked amazing! I knew I had repaired them because the button's plastic top were all beat up by the engraver. Some phones had switches with blue plastic top and for some reason this didn't work well for those but they could also easily be popped open so I just started replacing the snap dome in that type.
Deoxit will stay in the switch for YEARS and clean the button more every time you press it!
A lot of people comment that they use WD40 or other chemicals instead of Deoxit. Personally I wouldn't cheap out and use anything other than Deoxit D100L. I KNOW that is a permanent solution (unless copper is involved, most switches are nickel, stainless steel, spring steel or gold plated)
DO NOT use acetone or anything with acetone in it. Acetone can melt plastic.
Isopropyl is a good cleaner but evaporates immediately.
