Your battery connector may be different

Circuit board removed. Button pads visible. 
Clean the black goo and/or oil off the circuit board using Isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush, rag, q-tips

Make sure the thick clear plastic piece has the wider hole openings toward the circuit board

Install the membrane with the glossy side facing the rubber buttons 

When re-assembling, make sure the white membrane is not blocking the 4 black alignment pins
